Smoking a cigar takes know-how and a certain degree of skill in order to get the full scope of aroma, flavor, and pleasure out of your cigar. Properly smoking a cigar, involves three things which must be done so that the cigar smoking experience can be maximized. Cutting the cigar, lighting the cigar, and finally, smoking the cigar correctly will have you looking and feeling like a cigar connoisseur in no time.
First off, you’ll need what else? Cigars! For starters, I highly recommend buy something along the lines of a sampler pack. The thompson cigar company sampler, brings many of the big name brands and after trying each one, you can find what suits your taste.
Cutting the cigar or preparing the cigar for lighting has to be done correctly, so as to maintain the integrity of the wrapper and hence the quality of the cigar.

Up until recently, I had never been to a cigar lounge. My cigar smoking consisted of lighting one up with a beer or drink on the weekend after doing some grilling. Recently, I was taking a stroll with the old lady after dinner at a Bonefish Grill restaurant (the one located out west in Tamiami Trail) here in Miami and as we walked down the shopping center we saw a cigar lounge-cigar store.
From the moment you walk into any cigar lounge, you then realize that there is a huge difference with what most call cigar smell, we cigar aficionados accurately call cigar aroma.
The place was really cool, for lack of a better word. The owner greeted us as soon as we came in and let us look around for a bit without hounding us. The cigar bar also served wine and beer and there was a huge walk-in humidor. I can’t remember the name of this place, but it was a real treat considering it was in the middle of a shopping center. I bought myself a Macanudo and proceeded to sit down in over-sized chairs while watching a football game on a wide screen.
Some tips on smoking a cigar at a cigar lounge:
- Bring your own only if your a member
- Cigarettes shouldn’t really be smoked in a cigar lounge
Remember above all the owner is there to make money.
